“But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not to take thy coat also. Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again. And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same. And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again. But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. ”
(Luk 6:27-36)
Love truly does trump hate. I know this is a pun used by what the media calls the progressives, or liberals; to say that our President Trump and all who voted for him are filled with hate. In their minds they are the epitome of love. Today, however I want to remind you of the ironic nature of this slogan the liberal left have been using over the past year. They say they are love, yet are offended by the slightest point of view that is not their own. They say they are love, but if you stand for your rights and beliefs, you are intolerant. They say they are love, yet when a christian tells of the love of God, they accuse of being hate-filled and terrorist who do not love people and want to keep our society down.
Isn’t it funny how these people, protest with this slogan on their poster boards, yet their eyes are alight, with offense, rage and anger and hate? They fight, spit, shout in your face, try to have you arrested or impede your businesses. Burning down America in the tidal wave of “love”! But we are not the children of hate, nor of darkness but filled with the fruit of the Holy Spirit of Christ. In Galatians 5, it lists the fruits of the spirit of those who walk after the Spirit and not of the flesh.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.” (Gal 5:22-26)
Jesus also told us that in Matthew 24:
“Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.”(Mat 24:9-12)
In the above passages, we can see that the words of Jesus are literally coming to pass. Jesus also tells us in Matthew chapter 5, that we are to be the light of the world. That we are not to live like these people, but be a beacon on hill, that those who live in darkness may come in and seek refuge. As Followers and disciples of Christ, we have to live contrary to the order of this world. We must show them that Love does trump hate, and that our God is a redeemer, deliverer, healer, provider, and protector. We do this by the way we live and act in public and private.
So when you find yourself, facing a family member, friend, or stranger, who is always offended and unloving; do not offer them the eye for the eye. Instead do the works of our King, and shine forth that light, that is so woefully needed.
The Lord tells us to pray for those who misuse us.
Forgive them.
That a soft answer turns away wrath.
That we are to pray for our enemies.
That we are to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
Does any of the list above, mean that we are to be treated as door mats. Absolutely not! But do not argue, quarrel or fight with these people. Do not seek revenge, because there is only one who can truly avenge any wrong doing. Do not gossip and destroy people’s character because of something you do not like. And if you can avoid these conflicts that are unnecessary as to not be brought into the trap, and then made to be foolish.
Brothers and Sisters, we are the light of this world. Let us live above the status quo, and show how true and abiding love trumps hate!.
With Peace and Joy from our Lord Jesus Christ,
Your Sister
Redeemed One
